The Louisiana Orphan Train Museum traces a dark but profound period in American history. In the 19th century, between 1854 and 1929, thousands of orphaned and abandoned children were sent across the country in the hope of finding them new families. More than 2,000 children arrived in Louisiana from New York, mainly in Opelousas. The museum also invites visitors to reflect on the issues of adoption, family and identity.
