E.D. WHITE HISTORIC SITE
Creole cottage built in cypress that was the residence of two important Louisiana political figures in Thibodaux
This 1820's Creole cottage built in painted cypress is very elegant. Over the years, the house has undergone several transformations giving it more of a Greek Revival style architecture. It was the home of two important Louisiana political figures, Edward Douglas White, who was governor from 1835 to 1839, and his son, who was appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1894 and served as Chief Justice from 1910 to 1921. The exhibits are dedicated to these two men but also to the history of the Bayou Lafourche region.
