KENT PLANTATION HOUSE
The oldest planter's house in the region, built in the classic Creole style by Pierre Baillio in 1795
It is the oldest planter's house in the area. It is named after its second owner, Robert C. Hynson, who bought it in 1842, and who came from Kent Township, Maryland. It was built by Pierre Baillio II in 1795 in the classical Creole style, using cypress trees found on the site and bricks made on the plantation. It still has many exterior buildings: a blacksmith shop, a dairy, a sugar house (where the steps of making brown cane sugar are explained), a kitchen, a barn and a slave cabin.
