ROQUE HOUSE AND GARDENS
Typical French Creole architecture, dating from 1803, is today the oldest building in Natchitoches
This house, once located 22 miles south of Natchitoches and moved after the death of its last owner, is typical of French Creole architecture, with its wooden tile roof and cypress beams surrounded by bousillage. It dates from 1803 and is today the oldest building in Natchitoches. It is called Roque House after its last owner,Mrs. Aubert Roque, who died there in 1941. Around the house, an area called Beaujardin has been landscaped, with pretty little bridges and flowerbeds.
