HERMANN PARK
Park south of the Museum District, with a Japanese garden and a theater, with a statue representing Sam Houston.
Located south of the Museum District, it's the city's green lung. It covers 324 hectares and includes McGovern Lake, the Houston Zoo, the Centennial Garden, a Japanese garden and the Miller Outdoor Theatre. At the entrance to the park stands a statue of Sam Houston (1793-1863), after whom the city was named. You'll find local flora, particularly in Bayou Parkland, an ideal spot for picnics. Brays Bayou is also home to the Bill Coats Bridge, a contemporary suspension bridge linking the park to the surrounding neighborhoods.
