Association having set up a center for the protection of sea turtles in danger of extinction in its garden in South Padre Island.
In the late 1970s, Texas sea turtles were in danger of extinction. Ila Fox Loetscher decided to do something about it, and set up a turtle center in her backyard on South Padre Island. Since then, the center has enjoyed incredible success and has moved to its current location, where visitors learn about Texas tortoises and how to respect their natural environment. The turtle rehabilitation process can take days, months or even years, depending on the specimen and its injury.
