UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN
University founded in 1883 that has the largest university campus in the state, located in parks and green spaces.
The University of Texas at Austin was founded in 1883 and boasts the largest university campus in the state. Set in over 140 hectares of parks and green spaces, you can stroll freely around the campus during class periods to discover Texas student life. You can also visit a number of interesting museums, including the Blanton Museum of Art and the Briscoe Center for American History. You can also take in an entertaining theatrical or musical performance. There are also often temporary art exhibitions on display in various locations on campus, sometimes in the visual arts center, which offers free admission. Don't miss the University's iconic tower: almost 100 metres high and 30 storeys high, it was designed by French architect Paul Philippe Cret in the 1930s. Sadly, it is also known for having been the perch of the unbalanced Charles Whitman, who in 1966 shot students from the observation deck, killing some fifteen people. On a lighter note, the University is particularly proud of the clock that tops the tower. It is the largest in the state, costing over US$40,000 a year to register.
