The Bat Capital, the largest urban bat colony in the United States
Austin is known as the bat capital of the world. Between April and October, they come out every evening to hunt as the sun sets. For twenty minutes or so, they try to catch as many insects as possible. According to the scientists who study their population, there are around 1.5 million in Austin, depending on the year. The dance takes place every evening in spring and summer. It's the largest urban bat colony in the United States. Curiously, it's also the most popular tourist attraction.
