MAJESTIC THEATER
Theater designed by architect John Eberson in Spanish Mediterranean style, completed in 1929 in San Anronio
Completed in 1929, the Majestic was designed by architect John Eberson in the Spanish Mediterranean style that was all the rage at the time - Moorish with an American twist. The building was to embody Texas modernity: it was the first building in the state to be fully air-conditioned. Despite its heyday, the Majestic suffered the same decline as its competitors, and had to be bought by the city of San Antonio in the late 1980s. Listed on the Register of Historic Buildings, it is an emblem of the city.
