MCNAY ART MUSEUM
The first museum of contemporary art in Texas, featuring Mrs. McNay's fine collection of over 700 pieces
Opened in 1954, it was the first museum of contemporary art in Texas. Mrs. McNay's fine collection of over 700 pieces includes works from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, from Gauguin and Renoir to Manet and Picasso. The museum was built on her initiative, in this restored colonial house. The museum's new wing was designed by French architect Jean-Paul Viguier, who also designed the Pont du Gard museum and the new media library in Reims.
