SAN ANTONIO MUSEUM OF ART
San Antonio Museum of Art, which focuses on representing the world's cultures, spanning 5,000 years of history
With more than 30,000 objects, the San Antonio Museum of Art's collection seeks to represent the cultures of the world, spread over 5,000 years of history and 6,000m2. A rather eclectic and sometimes surprising selection. Thus, in the west tower, one will see statuettes and fragments of sarcophagi dating from ancient Egypt, then some Roman, Greek and Etruscan statues, before moving on to the second and third floors, devoted to Asian art. Japan, the Himalayas, China and Korea are particularly well represented. On the fourth floor, a few pieces, including carved and beautifully painted wood sculptures, attempt to bring Oceania to the forefront. To reach the east tower, one crosses a walkway that is illuminated at night, with a beautiful view of the city on both sides of the museum. The suite, a collection of Irish silverware and a small collection of European paintings. We highly recommend the Nelson A. Rockefeller Center, dedicated to Latin American art, spanning more than 4,000 years of history through more than 10,000 objects, a third of the collection. There are eight exhibition rooms, with art of the Americas before 1500, Latin American colonial art, modern and contemporary Latin American art, and popular art. Among our favorites are strong representations of Mexican modernism and constructivism, and the Latin American Folk Art Gallery with beautiful and wacky objects.
