FORT WORTH STOCKYARDS NATIONAL HISTORIC DISTRICT
Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District is a historic district dedicated entirely to cowboy culture.
Cowboy town means cattle town. Every morning at 11:30 a.m. and every afternoon at 4 p.m., the famous longhorn cows parade through Fort Worth on their way to market. The best vantage point is the city's impressive stockyards, at the intersection of East Exchange Avenue and North Main Street in the northern part of town. It's a local attraction not to be missed, and a good time to get out your camera. The area is also home to a number of country music concerts, whose melodies fit right in!
In this historic district entirely dedicated to cowboy culture, you'll want to head for the Stockyards Museum, housed in the Livestock Exchange building, the old livestock market dating back to 1902. And don't miss the Stockyards Championship Rodeo, held every Friday and Saturday at 8pm in the Cowtown Coliseum. A stone's throw away, the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame celebrates rodeo heroes. The tour continues through the many attractions, stores, saloons and restaurants dedicated entirely to the culture of the cowboy, or vaquero. If you get the chance, head to the Stockyard Championship Rodeo for a truly unforgettable experience in the heart of Texas culture and cowboy country. These rodeos take place every Friday and Saturday.
