WACO MAMMOTH NATIONAL MONUMENT
An escape from the modern world that offers a glimpse into the life and habitat of Columbian mammoths and other animals.
Surrounded by oak, mesquite and cedar trees, the site takes us away from the modern world and offers a glimpse into the life and habitat of mammoths and other animals from the Ice Age. Between 1978 and 1990, sixteen Columbus mammoths were excavated, along with a camel, an antelope, an alligator, a giant tortoise and the tooth of a big cat. This national monument was created by President Barack Obama in 2015.
