DURST-TAYLOR HOUSE
Durst-Taylor House was the residence of the city's first notables as early as the 1830s.
It is one of the oldest houses in Nacogdoches and was the residence of the town's first notables from the 1830s: bankers, entrepreneurs and local politicians. Their names will not tell you much, but they are important local historical figures. Thomas J. Rusk, a politician and Minister of the Army of the Republic of Texas, is probably the best known. A visit will give you a glimpse of daily life during Texas' short independence. A guided tour is recommended to get the full experience.
