ANGELINA NATIONAL FOREST
Angelina Forest is home to the largest freshwater lake in the region, embodied by Sam Rayburn Reservoir.
The Angelina Forest (620 km2) covers 4 counties: Nacogdoches, Angelina, San Augustine and Jasper. Its edge is located some 20 km from Nacogdoches. It is home to the region's largest freshwater lake, the Sam Rayburn Reservoir, fed by the Neches River and reinforced by a large dam in the 1960s. It covers an area of 46,336 ha. On a stroll, you'll spot fallow deer, wild turkeys, squirrels, doves and ducks... It's a good place for a bit of hiking, with several trails.
