Art museum with a permanent collection of over 1,800 works in Amarillo.
Designed by architect Edward Durell Stone (1902-1978), the Amarillo Museum of Art opened in 1972 on the grounds of Amarillo College. Initially, it was simply an art institution. In 1979, a change in policy led to the creation of a permanent collection, which now totals over 1,800 works. This collection includes both Asian and Western art, primarily modern and contemporary American art.
