Two lines pass through El Paso.
Sunset Limited Line. This line connects New Orleans to Los Angeles. Within Texas, it connects El Paso to San Antonio and Houston. Trains also stop in other Texas cities: Beaumont, Del Rio, Sanderson and Alpine. Two trains a week leave the El Paso station to travel across Texas. On Mondays and Thursdays, they leave El Paso at 3:35 p.m. and arrive in San Antonio at 4:50 a.m. They then arrive in Houston at 11:10 a.m. They then arrive in Houston at 11:10 a.m., nearly 20 hours later. To Los Angeles, from El Paso, it takes 16 hours! An overnight train from El Paso to San Antonio can cost about US$ 72 for a regular seat, and US$ 357 for a bed.
Texas Eagle Line. This line connects Chicago to Los Angeles. Within Texas, it connects El Paso and San Antonio, Austin, Fort Worth and Dallas. Trains also serve other Texas cities: Marshall, Longview, Mineola, Cleburne, McGregor, Temple, Taylor, San Marcos, Del Rio, Sanderson and Alpine. The trains used to get to San Antonio are the same as for the Sunset Limited line. In other words, the departure times are the same. To reach Austin by train from El Paso, it takes a little over 24 hours, including an 8.5 hour wait in San Antonio! For a trip between Austin and El Paso, count about 76 US$ for a normal seat, and 304 US$ for a bed. To go to Temple, count about US$ 77 for a normal seat and US$ 317 for a bed.
