YSLETA MISSION
Ysleta Mission located in El Paso, the oldest mission in Texas still in operation, to convert the Tigua Indians
This mission is also known as Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Built in 1681 to convert the Tigua Indians, it is the oldest mission in Texas still in operation. Repeated floods and fires have not spared it, and it has had to be renovated several times. Surrounding the mission is the Tigua Indian neighborhood. Do not enter the adjacent streets, which are considered private property of the Indians. Built in adobe, the mission is a fine example of Spanish colonial architecture.
