PRADA MARFA
Fake Prada store in the middle of the desert in Marfa typical of its offbeat spirit, a work of art by artists Elmgreen and Dragset
Typical of Marfa's quirky spirit, here contemporary art spills over into absurd contrast with the natural, authentic landscape of the Southwest Texas desert plains. This faux Prada store is a permanently installed work of art 2.3 km northwest of Valentine, and 60 km from Marfa, along Highway 90. Designed by artists Elmgreen and Dragset, it was inaugurated in October 2005. It cost 80 000 US$ and should never be preserved, which would allow to see its degradation over time.
