LAYDE OLD CHURCH
The red sandstone ruins of this little Franciscan church date back to 1306. The engraved tombstones of the cemetery commemorate the remains of the members of the McDonnell family. A Celtic cross indicated the entrance and was erected in memory of James MacDonnell, one of the organizers of the last harp festival in Belfast in 1792. The ancient repertoires could be saved thanks to him, which makes the site a pilgrimage for lovers of Celtic music.
You can reach this site with a view of the sea by the beach of the beach where the trail is indicated. The coastal road is also famous because it offers beautiful views on the Scottish coast, the Island of Ailsa Craig and the sea of Moyle.
