ALIIOLANI HALE
Building that houses an interesting museum, tracing the history of the Hawaiian court system in Honolulu.
This building is the seat of the Supreme Court of Hawaii and houses an interesting museum that traces the history of the Hawaiian judicial system. It provides an understanding of the role and operation of kapu (Hawaiian religious taboos) until their abolition in 1819, and the Puritan basis of the first penal code (1827) established under the influence of missionaries. Originally built as a royal palace for King Kamehameha V, he died before construction was completed. His statue stands as a tribute in front of the building, often decorated with flower necklaces.
