HONOLULU MUSEUM OF ART
Museum with the largest collection of Asian art in the United States and European paintings by renowned artists.
Founded in 1927, the Honolulu Museum of Arts boasts the largest collection of Asian art in the United States. It also features European paintings by renowned artists such as Monet, Modigliani, Cézanne and Matisse. The museum's remarkable architecture, with its white walls and tiled roofs, is impressive. The building was designed by New York architect Bertram Goodhue in the 1920s, and has since been imitated by many other buildings in Hawaii, creating what is known as typical Hawaiian architecture. In addition to the permanent collections, the temporary exhibitions allow visitors to appreciate and discover the talents of local artists, who are very active in Hawaii. The museum also has a very pleasant restaurant and café open to all. Lunch is served on a pretty patio, with healthy, well-prepared dishes. And every Friday, the museum extends its opening hours until 9pm for HoMa Nights, a nighttime exploration of art with live concerts. Atmosphere guaranteed! From 5pm to 8pm on Fridays and from 10am to 1pm on Sundays, the museum offers activities on the theme of color and the importance of its choice in a work of art, accessible to children and adults alike. Finally, free one-hour guided tours are offered at 2pm from Thursday to Sunday. Reservations can be made online. Don't forget to visit the museum's website to find out about current exhibitions and upcoming events during your stay.
