QUEEN EMMA'S SUMMER PALACE
The summer residence of Queen Emma and her husband Kamehameha IV in Honolulu
It is the summer residence of Queen Emma and her husband Kamehameha IV. This small palace, located in the Nuuanu Valley, was not built in situ but was shipped from New England by boat. Queen Emma inherited it in 1857 and lived there with her husband. They had a child who died in infancy and his parents never recovered... You can see the child's bed and a small armchair that belonged to him. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Victorian building fell into disrepair and the authorities planned to raze it to the ground to build a baseball field! Fortunately, the association "The Daughters of Hawaii" restored it and turned it into the preserved palace that we can visit today. Period furniture, numerous trinkets and gifts made to the queen during her travels in Europe. To see: the stereoscope offered by Napoleon III, on the occasion of the queen's stay in Paris. Many events are organized on site according to local and national holidays (King Kamehameha Day, Lei competitions...), but also Hula classes for adults (5 US$) with dance and language learning on Thursdays from 10 to 11 am, ukulele classes (5 US$) on Mondays from 3 to 5 pm. Self-guided tours are available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 3pm, with reservations available online or on site. Guided tours are available by reservation.
