Heiau or temple located behind the YMCA parking lot, towards Kailua
Heading to Kailua, on the Pali Highway, take a left on Uluoa Street and then the first right. The Heiau is behind the YMCA parking lot. Like all heiau (temples), Ulupo's was almost destroyed after the abolition of the Hawaiian religion in 1819. The land was first used as a taro field and then as a rice field, cultivated by Chinese immigrants in the 19th century. The surrounding marshes have favored the growth of native plants and flowers, which makes the walk through the ruins of this temple very pleasant.
