This trail is less than a mile long and shows the devastation caused by the 1959 eruption of Kilauea Iki crater
A trail of less than a kilometer, very easy to walk, that shows the devastation caused by the eruption of Kilauea Iki crater in 1959. Looking at this expanse of hardened lava, who can imagine that a tropical forest once grew here? Hence the name of the trail. The signs allow to visualize this spectacular eruption whose jets went up to 579 m high, that is to say more than the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building! A real spectacle that tourists from all over the world could admire for about a month.
