Lava tunnels created by the eruptions of Mauna Loa on Saddle Road, between the 4 and 5 mile markers
On Saddle Road, between the 4 and 5 mile markers. A maze of amazing caves where tree roots hang down in some places. Created by the eruptions of Mauna Loa, these lava tunnels form today a real labyrinth. As the tunnels are completely unlit, good caving equipment is recommended and you should have at least a headlamp and non-slip closed shoes. Don't venture inside alone: you can easily get lost. Strong sensations guaranteed. Claustrophobic people should not go.
