NAHA AND PINAO STONES
Naha and Pinao are two huge cobblestones located in front of the Hilo Public Library
In front of the Hilo Public Library, there are two huge paving stones: Naha and Pinao. The Pinao stone is said to be the ancient pillar of a temple built near the Wailuku River. The 2.5 ton Naha stone is said to have been lifted by King Kamehameha when he was a teenager (only 14 years old)... It is said that a Hawaiian prophecy predicted that the one who would be able to do such a feat would become the king of all the islands. The prophecy proved to be true since it was Kamehameha I who unified the archipelago in 1810..
