BALDWIN HOME MUSEUM
Stone and coral building where missionary and physician Dwight Baldwin resided, the first clinic in Lahaina to visit
Built between 1834 and 1835, this stone and coral building was the home of missionary and physician, Dwight Baldwin. It took Dr. Baldwin and his family about five months to arrive in Hawaii from their native Connecticut. Thanks to a successful restoration, the missionary's home reflects its era well. Most interesting, however, is a visit to the dispensary, Lahaina's first clinic. Here we discover that the doctor saved the lives of more than 10,000 Maui residents during the terrible smallpox epidemic of 1853.
