Mokuleia and Honolua bays, snorkeling spots in summer with calm water, surfing in winter, hosts the women's world surfing
The bays of Mokuleia (also known as Slaughterhouse Beach) and Honolua are great snorkeling spots when the water is calm in summer. In winter, when the waves are rough, the surfers take over. In fact, the Billabong Pro Maui, the women's world surfing competition, is held here every year in December. The two beaches are separated by Kalaepiha Point, the whole being a protected marine reserve where fishing is prohibited. Underwater, you can see rare exotic fish and even spinner dolphins.
