It is the island's main airport and the second busiest in Hawaii. It receives many direct flights from the western United States and Canada, and almost as many inter-island flights. When all these tourists land simultaneously, the airport soon becomes congested. So don't underestimate boarding time even if you are traveling domestically. Also, the queue can be as long as two hours to pick up rental cars.
