AHIHI-KINAU - LA PEROUSE BAY
Go there and contact
Bay of lava rocks dating from the last eruption of the Haleakala volcano and where to discover the natural reserve of Ahihi-Kinau.
Continuing on past Makena and once past Big Beach, you come to a bay of lava rocks dating from the last eruption of the Haleakala volcano in 1790. This is the location of the Ahihi-Kinau Nature Reserve, where fishing is prohibited and snorkeling is therefore very pleasant, as the marine life is preserved and particularly well sheltered. A hiking trail of about 9 km, the Hoapili Trail, starts at Perouse Bay and ends at Kanaio Beach. The trail is easy but requires good shoes.
