MUNRO TRAIL

Head north on the Keomuku Highway for 1.6 km. Shortly thereafter, you will see a trail on the right that leads to the entrance of the Munro Trail. This 9-mile trail begins in Koele, behind the Four Seasons Resort Lodge, and continues with a strenuous climb through a beautiful pine forest. The hike, which can be done on foot or by bike, ends at the highest point on the island, at 3,370 feet (1,027 m), also known as Lanaihale (Lanai House). The view from there is breathtaking on a clear day as you can see most of the Hawaiian Islands. There is also a superb viewpoint from which you can admire the magnificent canyon of Maunalei Gulch. Hence the usefulness to be well informed about the weather the day before because, at this altitude, if the weather is bad, the show is spoiled. Moreover, the ground is transferred in ice rink. Bring a good K-way and a sweater because of the drop in temperature at the summit and the violent winds that accompany it. From the summit, there are three options: the first is to retrace your steps, which is the shortest option, the second is to continue along the path that goes back down to the port (count 2 additional hours), provided of course that you have a second car or a shuttle to bring you back to your starting point. The hike is also accessible by mountain bike.
Please note: even if the dirt trail seems passable by car, jeeps are now forbidden on the trail because of the danger it represented for pedestrians.
