Bridge with an architectural feat at Cape Jourimain with a resistant design to face the ice.
This 12.9 km-long structure, built in 1997, links Cape Jourimain (New Brunswick) to Borden-Carleton (Prince Edward Island) across the Northumberland Strait. It is the longest bridge over an ice-covered stretch of sea in the world. This architectural feat is designed to withstand the ice and current of the Northumberland Strait. Elaborate design and construction methods took into account both the land and marine environment.
