PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND NATIONAL PARK
A park on the Gulf of St. Lawrence that allows you to discover one of the most beautiful landscapes in Atlantic Canada at Cavendish.
Stretching 40 km along the north coast of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, the Gulf Shore Parkway offers one of the most beautiful landscapes in Atlantic Canada. Trails, boardwalks and walkways lead to a coastline that offers a succession of sand dunes, red sandstone cliffs, brackish water marshes, freshwater ponds, woodlands and beautiful white sandy beaches. The red hue of the hematite-containing cliffs comes from the oxidation of this iron-rich mineral. These cliffs are extremely friable. Glaciers and waves have created barrier beaches and dunes resulting from the accumulation of eroded sandstone. Waves, currents and strong winds continue to shape the sand dunes, which are only fixed by ammophilous plants. Nature trails provide a better understanding of this fragile ecological balance. And in summer and winter, many outdoor activities are available here and equipment rental is available. To prolong the pleasure, camping, ready-to-camp and small chalets are available.
Beaches: there are many. The most beautiful are those of North Rustico, Brackley, all in length and hemmed in by dunes, and, even more so, Cavendish, bordered by stratified red sandstone cliffs, the most spectacular on the island. All the beaches are well equipped and supervised.
