SKMAQN-PORT-LA-JOYE-FORT-AMHERST HISTORIC SITE
This historic site, with beautiful views of the bay and Charlottetown Harbour directly across the street, is ideal for a picnic.
It was here that the French first settled on the island in 1720, and in 1758 the British took over the area and built Fort Amherst on the same site, which they occupied until 1768. All that remains of the fortress today are the grassy embankments from which there are great views of the bay and Charlottetown Harbour just across the way. It is the perfect place for a picnic or for a stroll along the 6 km of walking trails.
