Whitehorse Dam suggesting a truly unique sight and preserving the Chinook salmon.
In 1926, this dam transformed the perilous Whitehorse Rapids into the peaceful Schwatka Lake. The area has the largest salmon migration in the world! They go upstream and pass this dam through the longest wooden fish ladder there is, a kind of staircase that allows fish to swim up the river. The dam thus offers a truly unique spectacle. This dam helps to preserve the species and in particular the Chinook salmon.
