PIONEER BUILDING
Built in 1891, it was the work of Elmer Fisher, the architect who led the reconstruction of the city. The imposing arch of raw stone entry to the burin is an expression of the triumphant optimism that characterized the city in its beginnings. During the years of the gold rush, the vast majority of mining companies were here. The tower that crowning the central part of the building was destroyed during the earthquake of 1949. The Pioneer Building is the starting point of the Underground Seattle - the ground floor of the first houses in Seattle destroyed during the 1889 fire - which only serves a minor interest in the area's knowledge.
