MUSEUM OF POP CULTURE (MOPOP)
What was called the Experience Music Project Museum until 2016 is a state-of-the-art building with a metallic look, built by Frank Gehry and inspired by Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft. It is worth the detour on its own. The museum is dedicated to exploring creativity and innovation in popular music. One room is dedicated to Jimi Hendrix, the country's child, another to the evolution of the grunge movement and indie rock. Temporary exhibitions on the famous group Nirvana are regularly organized there, such as Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses where you can admire Kurt Cobain's grunge clothes. A godsend for fans! You can also try out on drums, guitar or piano. We learn to mix, sing, and record in the studio. Beginners and advanced can play as apprentice DJs and perform on stage!
The second part of the museum is dedicated to science fiction and horror cinema. Fans of Star Trek, Game of Thrones or Star Wars can discover collections of objects, costumes and sets used to make these successful films and series. The same goes for the exhibition dedicated to horror cinema with giant pulp aliens, fiction chainsaws and drawings scribbled by the greatest directors of suspense films.
Temporary exhibitions are held all year round on the theme of popular culture such as cartoons and video games. A fee may be added to the regular ticket price for temporary exhibitions.
There is no guided tour of the museum, it can be visited freely. There is also a fast food restaurant and several thematic shops (music, science fiction, etc.).
