TOWN HOTEL
City hall equipped with an astronomical clock and another with a luminous dial in Mons.
Built in 1458, Mons Town Hall, with its Gothic facade, is topped by a campanile added in 1716, featuring an astronomical clock and another with a luminous dial. It bears witness to the successive occupations (French, Dutch, Austrian, Spanish) that have shaped the city's history. The Mayeur garden once served as an orchard and farmyard for the aldermanic body. At the entrance to the courtyard, a small bronze monkey from the Middle Ages is rubbed on the head with his left hand by visitors. It's said to bring good luck for a year.
