Imposing monastery with 2 huge cypress trees, reputed to be the largest in Bhutan, housing a monastic school of astrology
Located in the middle of the fields, the Pangri Zampa temple was the residence of the Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel in the 17th century. The sanctuary gives its name to the traditional bridge built next to it. You will notice moreover the presence of two enormous cypress trees reputed to be the largest in Bhutan. Today, this imposing monastery houses a monastic school of astrology. It was the chief astrologer of the temple who determined the date of the coronation of the current king of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, on November 6, 2008 at 8:31 a.m. precisely.
