Temple dedicated to the local deity, featuring a large representation of the Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal surrounded by terrifying protective deities
This temple is dedicated to the local deity, Genyen Jagpa Melen, the tutelary god of the Drukpa. Worshipped by all, this temple would date from the fourteenth century and would have been built by Jamyang Kunga Sengyal. It would then have been restored by the Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in the seventeenth century, and also by UNESCO in 1990. Take a look at the 12th century paintings, which have also been beautifully restored. On the upper floor, there is a large representation of the Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal surrounded by terrifying protective deities.
