NATIONAL LIBRARY
National library of modern architecture, offering a visit to discover how texts were printed on large wooden blocks
A fine example of modern architecture incorporating traditional Bhutanese style. Established in 1967, the national library houses the country's oldest manuscripts and xylographic plates. A visit reveals how texts were printed on large wooden blocks. Most of the works are in the Tibetan style, printed or written on long strips of handmade paper, held between two wooden boards and wrapped in a piece of silk. A place that will appeal to bibliophiles.
