HÔTEL GANGTEY PALACE
Hotel featuring small loggias with some rooms overlooking the valley and a former palace with more expensive rooms
Built a hundred years ago by Kusho Dawa Penjor, uncle of Bhutan's first king and governor of the Paro Valley, the palace first became the king's residence, before being converted into a hotel in 1995. Today, the hotel is an incredible place to stay. Some rooms open onto the valley from small loggias, while more expensive rooms are housed in the former palace. Each room is richly furnished, but also boasts modern amenities (especially the bathrooms). Antiques here and there are a reminder of the building's history.
