DOBJI DZONG
According to legend, the central tower was built by Ngawang Chogyal with 100 carpenters and masons from Tibet
The Dzong (renovated in 2020) was built in 1531 by Ngawang Chogyal. Legend has it that he followed a spring originating beneath the throne of yogi Jetsun Milarepa in Druk Ralung, Tibet, in order to find a site to build a center where the master's teachings would be followed in Bhutan. Water gushed from the rock near Dogar, and thus was born this Dzong, which was called Dokhar Druk Chokhorkhang, "the stone castle of Bhutan". Ngawang Chogyal is said to have brought with him 100 carpenters and masons from Tibet to build the central tower, the utse.
