Your Kwando Safari !
Philosophy and Objective:
Spanning the legendary deserts of the Central Kalahari, the waterways of the Okavango Delta, and the predator paradise of the great Kwando-Linyanti-Chobe river systems, a Kwando safari reveals the best of Botswana with warm, authentic hospitality.
Managing over one million hectares of biodiverse habitat, each sustainably operated camp is located in the best wildlife viewing areas. Each stay is timelessly designed, carefully crafted and consciously intimate for a light footprint that honors the precious environment.
Kwando's time-tested recipe combines authentic wilderness with first-class comfort and a relaxed, down-to-earth atmosphere that ensures true luxury: escaping the frenzy of the outside world and connecting deeply with nature - and those around you.
Our trained Botswana staff are uniquely placed to introduce you to the wildlife and culture of their country. Combinations of renowned guides and trackers greatly enhance each expedition and ensure you don't miss a thing. Experienced guides share fascinating folklore and interpret extraordinary ecosystems, while an experienced tracker guides you through pristine landscapes, deciphering nature's signs. Another benefit? Night drives and off-roading are allowed in private reserves, giving you epic encounters with nature. Flexibility is the key to exceptional sightings, so there are no set meal times or rushing back to base camp. Animals don't have schedules, and this team understands this better than anyone: nature knows what to do!
Each client has an impact and allows our local company to help outlying areas by creating sustainable jobs. Most of the chefs, trackers, guides, rulers, and managers are from the surrounding communities, where each employee often supports a large extended family.
Under the professional care of Botswana's best hosts, Kwando's rich wildlife experiences will rekindle your soul.
Kwara Private Game Reserve - Kwara, Splash and 4 Rivers:
Diverse landscapes and action-packed wildlife sightings.
Sharing valuable permanent waterways with Moremi Game Reserve, this game-rich reserve is located on the northern edge of the Okavango Delta and is renowned for its regular predator sightings. This amazingly diverse private reserve offers game drives, boating, mokoro, walking, birding and fishing.
Troops of healthy lions, cheetah coalitions, African wild dogs and herds of elephants roam the reserve, as well as giraffe, sitatunga and hippo. The success rate of sightings is due to the overlap of several habitat types. Kwara Private Game Reserve has extensive savannah, palm-fringed landscapes, abundant floodplains and deep channels with rich riparian forest winding through the delta. For bird lovers, there is the intriguing Godikwe heronry. Accessible by a scenic boat ride, this unique seasonal site is teeming with storks and thousands of other water birds that breed, nest and feed here.
Explore this wealth of wildlife from the legendary adults-only Kwara Camp with its bright and spacious suites, the more contemporary Splash Camp (with Splash Enclave for families) or relax in the classic 4 Rivers tented camp.
Dinare Private Game Reserve - Mma Dinare & Rra Dinare
Classic safari, down-to-earth hospitality and positive impact.
Managed in collaboration with the Sankuyo Community Trust, Rra Dinare and Mma Dinare are small, classic tented camps that offer an authentic experience of Africa's extraordinary nature, hosted by the people who live there.
Keep your camera handy. Elephant parades are regulars on these scenic floodplains, as are the red lechwe and huge herds of buffalo, for which the area is named. Dinare" means "many buffaloes" in Setswana, and the lion herds walk in the wake of all these prey. This area is also known as a mecca for the African wild dog, and the pups (which are being studied by a nearby research camp) are proof of this.
The streams of the Gomoti River feed lush grasslands, and this area contains essential watering holes for the dry season, allowing for year-round game viewing.
The Sankuyo community benefits directly from your visit. More than 60 Dinare camp staff are from Sankuyo village, and the additional revenue supports local development. The citizens of Sankuyo fund critical projects through this trust, such as the installation of household water connections that minimize human contact with dangerous animals and a high-tech, eco-friendly solar system. Both camps use the same solar management to power your safari.
Ntswi Private Game Reserve - Moremi Crossing and Gunns Camp
Slow down and smell the wild sage.
Whether you're stealthily tracking wildlife on foot or silently moving through the waterways of the Okavango Delta on a mokoro, time slows down in the Ntswi Private Game Reserve
Ntswi is located across from the famous Chief's Island. Raised above the water level by tectonic activity, it is home to dense wildlife, with animals retreating when the floodwaters rise. Seasonal safaris provide a front row seat to this plethora, but with an abundance of postcard-perfect lagoons and floodplains, walking safaris and water exploration are our forte. Stretch your legs on a guided nature walk that will turn your safari into a sensory experience. Weaving through tall termite mounds to get a bird's eye view of the landscape (like a cheetah), you'll learn to track, understand the use of medicinal plants and much more.
Two camps fit perfectly into the island's riparian forest of beautiful palms and ancient trees, overlooking the Boro River. Moremi Crossing is a sociable camp with a simple, basic approach and 16 Meru-style en-suite tents, while Gunn's Camp has a more romantic and intimate atmosphere. For an extra dose of adventure, you can spend the night on one of the Delta's islands for a wilderness camping experience.
Pom Pom Private Game Reserve - Pom Pom:
The quintessential Okavango Delta.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the delta is home to some remarkable wildlife, and Pom Pom is the place to find it. Wildlife is prolific, and big cats are the stars of our monthly sightings reports.
Leopards like to bask in the tall trees while the grasslands remain strongholds of the spotted hyena and African wild dogs hunt red lechwe along the flooded shores. Pel's rare fish owls roost in the riparian forests near the camp and endangered wattled cranes gather in elegant flocks. Bird watching is unmatched in any season, with the summer months in particular attracting avid birders year after year.
Situated around a hippo-filled lagoon, Pom Pom Camp's nine classic suite tents enjoy a breathtaking view of the Okavango. During the annual floods, mokoro trips depart from the front of the camp. As you glide silently through the lagoon, you will encounter abundant aquatic life, including painted reed frogs, African jacanas, malachite kingfishers, and more. Motorboat safaris are another, more exhilarating way to explore the enchanting network of channels and lagoons.
Kwando Private Game Reserve - Lagoon and Lebala:
A world-class predator's paradise.
Let yourself be impressed. Kwando Game Reserve, in the greater Kwando-Linyanti region, covers an area 30 times the size of Manhattan and has an impressive carrying capacity thanks to its amazing ecological biodiversity. It is in this exceptional context that the luxury camps of Lagoon and Lebala are located.
In winter, robust populations of elephants and herds of buffalo converge on the perennial Kwando River and predators prowl the hinterland. Widely recognized as one of the best places to encounter African wild dogs, this landscape offers unparalleled opportunities for off-roading to find and track animals up close. Less common antelope species include the elusive Sable and Roan antelope. Kwando is also fantastic for finding nocturnal animals and night game drives reveal spotted wolves, servals... and if you are lucky, pangolins!
Fill your days with exciting game drives, fascinating bush walks and boat adventures, which leave from the shore of Lagoon Camp to see elephants crossing the ancient migration routes into Namibia. Lebala Camp is further inland, on the floodplains of the Kwando River. Lebala means "wide open spaces," which is reflected in each custom-designed suite, with unique screen walls and stunning views of the magnificent African bush.
Nxai Pan and the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans - Nxai Pan Camp:
The secret safari superstar that is home to a large migration and Nxai Pan's only permanent lodge.
From our 9-room camp, follow in the footsteps of Victorian explorers to the little-visited Nxai Pan National Park, an extension of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pan system.
Summer brings spectacular thunderstorms, baby animals and beautiful wildflowers to the khaki landscape of Nxai Pan. It is a glorious opportunity for photography and the epic migration of zebras - the longest mammal migration in southern Africa.
Elephants depend on the permanent waterhole at Nxai Pan Camp during the dry season, and predators, such as the black maned Kalahari lions, lie in wait, waiting for their prey to take an unsuspecting sip. The highlights are always the immersive nature walk with a San tracker and the visit to the Baines Baobabs. These trees have stood sentinel at the edge of the saline landscape for centuries, providing shelter for explorers of old. Standing next to these massive, scarred ancient trunks is humbling.
Central Kalahari Game Reserve - Tau Pan
The spectacular desert of legend, home of the San and the only permanent safari camp in the vastness of the CKGR.
Unlike the lush wetlands of the north, you won't find hippos, buffalo or other water-dependent humans here. The desert creatures are more interesting anyway
The views are beautiful - vast skies, huge savannah - as are the captivating encounters with the San. Also known as Bushmen in Botswana, they are the original inhabitants of southern Africa. Indigenous trackers provide vital information on how to survive in this harsh paradise. On a mesmerizing nature walk, you will see the land of the lions through the eyes of the ancient San. By entering this world as a student, you ensure the preservation of the rapidly disappearing San culture.
Tau Pan Camp was the first accommodation hosted in the famous Central Kalahari Game Reserve and an unprecedented opportunity to establish a camp in one of the world's greatest pristine wilderness areas. It occupies an unparalleled location on a dune ridge, overlooking a waterhole and game-rich plains. The stargazing is amazing in this remote location and the best way to experience it is to spend a night under the Milky Way on the sleeping deck.
