PHUTHADIKOBO MUSEUM
Historical museum in Mochudi. An address to discover to know more about the Bakgatla tribe.
Nestled on a hillside overlooking the plain, this historical museum was originally a school built in 1923 to accommodate the children of the Bakgatla community, whose tribe moved to the area in the 1870s under pressure from Boer settlers. The Cape Dutch style building was converted into a museum in 1976, reconstructing the history of the Bakgatla tribe from old photographs from the early 1900s, and old objects of daily life such as weapons and musical instruments.
