GLENARM CASTLE & WALLED GARDEN
Château: it was erected in 1242 by John Bisset who was expelled from Scotland for killing a rival during a tournament. Since 1750 it has become the McDonall family. Today, the 14 th Comte of Antrim, Alexander Randall, lives with his family.
The Gothic building is very well preserved despite some accidents and transformations over the centuries. It is surrounded by thick ramparts bordering the park. The Barbican Gate, a huge gateway after a small bridge, is also very impressive.
Walled Garden: the gardens are among the oldest in Ireland and date from the th century. They were designed to produce the fruits and vegetables necessary to the castle. At present they remain a reference, maintained and magnificent in all seasons, with a lounge of tea and pleasant walks. They are also used in annual events, such as the Tulip Festival and opera at the castle.
