MUSEO DE ARTE CONTEMPORÁNEO LATINOAMERICANO
Museum of contemporary art in La Plata, with numerous permanent collections and renowned temporary exhibitions.
A visit to this museum of contemporary art alone can justify a stop in La Plata for lovers of the genre. Located in the beautifully restored old train station, it reflects the spirit and creativity of thousands of Latin American artists. It all began in 1978, at the first meeting of Ibero-American Visual Artists and Critics in Caracas, Venezuela: the idea of a contemporary art museum in the image of the continent germinated in the ideal of the artists of the "Confluences" exhibition, bringing together all the South American artists exiled in Europe, willingly or not. They all agreed to donate their works to make the project a reality in this new museum that was born right here in La Plata. Supported by personalities from the art world, the museum was inaugurated in 1999 under the name of MACLA and has many permanent collections, but also hosts renowned temporary exhibitions.
On the one hand there is the general collection, which includes works by the great Antonio Segui (one of the major artists of narrative figuration), the brilliant Julio Le Parc (kinetic optics) or Rogelio Poleselio (optical art). Also on display is the Tomasello collection, named after the eponymous artist, a genius of kinetic optics, including books by Julio Cortazar.
You will also be able to admire the MADI International collection, made up of various works including those of its founder Arden Quin, a figure of concrete art.
