The house owes its importance to the fact that it is one of the neobaroque buildings in Belgrade. It was built in 1885 by architect Jovan Ilkić as a family residence for wealthy merchant Marko O. Marković. The house was intended to be a ceremonial building with rich interior and exterior decoration.
Today, the building houses the Belgrade City Library. Built in 1885 by the wealthy Krsmanović family, this palace is one of the most representative examples of the academic style of the late 19th century.
