VRŠAC FORTRESS
Erected on the hill overlooking the eastern part of the city, this famous 15th century keep, also known as the "Vršac Tower", offers a grandiose panoramic view. The tower is 17 meters high and 6 meters wide. It was built on the site of a Roman garrison and was part of a fortress that was dismantled during the Belgrade peace treaty signed between the Turks and the Austrians in 1739.
Indeed, the Turks who tried three times to seize it, lost it in 1717 to the troops of Eugene of Savoy. It is today the preferred viewpoint of the city dwellers.
